The First International Conference On
Transdisciplinary Approach To Health

~ In India

[Unity of Knowledge: Collective wisdom from Allopathy, AYUSH
& Traditional Experts towards Sustainable Health]

Introducing the Theme:
India is a land of rich medical traditions, home to both ancient systems of medicine like
Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy (AYUSH), modern allopathic practices and
traditional knowledge systems. Despite their coexistence, these systems often function in
silos, missing opportunities for synergy that could enhance health care.
A Transdisciplinary Approach (TDA) is an advanced, collaborative health care model. In this
professionals and experiential experts from various backgrounds transcend system
boundaries and recognise complementary role of all the systems of healthcare. Also they
work in collaboration to provide comprehensive solutions addressing individual’s physical
and psycho-social-environmental dimensions of health.

Unlike multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary models, where professionals work in parallel or
collaboratively while maintaining distinct roles—a transdisciplinary team shares roles,
responsibilities, and decision-making processes beyond system limitations to achieve shared
approach towards common goal. Transdisciplinarity is the way to solve complex health
problems that need a combined scientific and social effort.
This conference aims to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among various health
care systems and professionals – promoting a transdisciplinary approach that ensures
quality, accessibility, and cultural acceptability of health care services.
In collaboration with the WHO Collaborating Centre for Emergency & Trauma Care, the
conference will also shed light on advancements in trauma care, emphasizing the crucial
roles of nursing, paramedical, pharmacological, and diagnostic support systems.

Key Features:
1. Integrated Roles and Responsibilities:
o Professionals work interdependently.
o Roles may be flexible or overlap, depending on patient needs.
2. Collaborative Decision-Making:
o Team members co-create solutions to patient care problems.
o Input is equally valued, regardless of hierarchy.
3. Patient and Community Inclusion:
o Patients, families, and communities are active participants in care planning
and implementation.
o Social, cultural, and contextual factors are deeply considered.
4. Holistic Problem Solving:
o Goes beyond treating immediate medical issues to address social determinants
of health, mental health, housing, safety, and more.

5. Shared Language and Understanding:
o Professionals develop common communication frameworks to ensure
seamless coordination during emergencies.

Objectives of the Conference:
1. To explore the scope of all the systems of healthcare to achieve long term recovery.
2. To promote dialogue and collaboration among Allopathy, AYUSH and traditional
experts for sustainable health care delivery.
